A Semi-micro Method for the Determination of Reducing Sugars.

The MUNSON-WALKER method (3) with the modification of BERTRAND (1) has long been used for the determination of reducing sugars in plant extracts. The large amiiounts of solutions required by this method, however, make necessary the frequent preparation and standardization of solutions, which is inconvenient when large numbers of determinations are being made over an extended period of time. For...

A REPORT OF RAPID AND EFFICIENT METHOD FOR MITOCHONDRIAL DNA

Based on the similarity of prokaryotic DNA to that of mitochondrial DNA, a rapid and efficient method for DNA purification from mitochondrial extracts obtained from different sources, was carried out based on the modification method described by Marmur (1983) which resulted in a high degree of purity (A260/A280=2). In addition we have applied the same technique for the first time to purify...

A Method for Rapid Determination of Sugars in Lignocellulose Prehydrolyzate

A simple and rapid dual-wavelength spectroscopic method is used for simultaneous determination of pentoses and hexoses in the prehydrolyzate from lignocellulosic biomass. The method is based on the following reaction mechanism: in the solution of hydrochloric acid, phloroglucinol gives color reaction with sugars or their degradation products, showing maximum absorbance at 553 nm and 410 nm. Bas...

Rapid Separation and Identification of Carbonyl Compounds by HPLC Application

A fast HPLC method for the analysis of DNPH derivatized carbonyls found in air samples is demonstrated. A 1.8-μm StableBond C18 separated a standard of the major 13 DNPH derivatized carbonyls. An air sample was analyzed in under 10 minutes and found to contain several carbonyls.
